Scattergories Game Xmas Variant - How to Play

Scattergories is a word game that was created by the game company Hasbro in 1988. The game is played with a set of dice with letters on the faces, and players must come up with words that fit a set of categories and start with the letter rolled on the dice.

How to play Christmas Scattergories game:

  1. Gather a group of players and have them sit in a circle.
  2. Choose a list of categories related to Christmas, such as holiday foods, gifts, or traditions. You can also include more general categories, such as colors or animals.
  3. Choose a letter of the alphabet and give each player a sheet of paper and a pen or pencil.
  4. Set a time limit, such as three minutes, and have players write down as many items as they can think of that fit the categories and start with the chosen letter. For example, if the letter is "C" and the category is "holiday foods," players might write down "cookies," "candy canes," and "cranberry sauce."
  5. When the time is up, players stop writing and share their lists with the group.
  6. Each player gets one point for each unique item on their list. If two or more players have the same item on their list, that item is not worth any points.
  7. Repeat the process with a different letter and set of categories.
  8. The player with the most points at the end of the game is the winner.

To make the game more challenging, you can increase the number of categories or the time limit, or use more obscure letters of the alphabet.

You can also play multiple rounds to give players more opportunities to score points.
