Possessive nouns: 

Possessive nouns are nouns that show ownership or possession. Possessive nouns are often formed by adding an apostrophe and "s" to the end of a noun.

 

Types of possessive nouns:

  1. Singular possessive nouns: possessive nouns that show ownership or possession by a singular noun. Example: The cat's toy (the toy belonging to the cat)

  2. Plural possessive nouns: possessive nouns that show ownership or possession by a plural noun. Example: The cats' toys (the toys belonging to the cats)

 

Practical uses Possessive nouns:

  1. Possessive nouns are used to show ownership or possession of a person, place, thing, or idea. Example: The cat's toy (the toy belonging to the cat)

  2. Possessive nouns can also be used to modify other nouns. Example: The cat's toy is stuck under the couch. (The possessive noun "cat's" modifies the noun "toy")

 

Special cases Possessive nouns:

  1. Possessive nouns are often used to show a relationship between two people or things. Example: My sister's car (the car belonging to my sister)

  2. The possessive form is not used with personal pronouns (such as "mine," "yours," "his," "hers," "ours," and "theirs"). Example: The car is mine. (not "my")
